We focus on more than just vision correction! Your eye care begins with a comprehensive eye examination. Our exams are geared towards identifying and solving your needs, with an emphasis on individual attention. A thorough eye examination is focused on maintaining or restoring optimal ocular and systemic health. Did you know that your eyes reveal insights into your overall health? In many cases, your eyes provide early detection for many different diseases that affect more than just your vision.
That is why we perform thorough testing that helps to detect signs and symptoms of high blood pressure, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, heart disease, and even neurological diseases. If any problems are discovered, we will work closely with your primary healthcare professional to correct these problems.
Also, certain medications can cause vision impairments, which is why it is crucial to have your eyes examined yearly and carefully review any medications your are taking with your eye doctor.
We also focus on your eye health. Testing is done during each eye examination to uncover dry eye, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, eye infections, macular degeneration, and glaucoma, just to name a few. Early detection and treatment of these sometimes symptomless conditions can protect and preserve your vision for a lifetime. Treatment will be tailored to your individual needs to ensure clear, comfortable vision.
A precise vision examination will be performed to provide you with the optimal prescription for your glasses or contact lenses, tailored to your unique vision needs. In some cases, this may entail different prescriptions for different activities. We use our eyes differently when we are on the computer for many hours during the work day than we do when driving at night or golfing. It may improve your visual function and quality of life to have different eyewear for these situations.
Our contact lens examinations focus on providing you with the most comfortable, clear vision you have experienced with contact lenses. We utilize all varieties of contact lenses to meet your vision and lifestyle needs. These include 1-day contacts, contacts to correct astigmatism, bifocal contacts, and even custom-made contact lenses. We also offer Corneal Reshaping Therapy (CRT) lenses that are worn while you sleep to correct your refractive error and allow clear vision throughout your day without contact lenses or glasses. Even if you have not had success with contact lenses in the past or have been told that you cannot wear contact lenses, we will work with you to meet your specific needs.
Digital Retinal Imaging
This state of the art technology lets us view your retina – the inside of your eye – sometimes without pupil dilation. We believe photo documentation provides a higher standard of care and a better record of your eye health from year to year. Early detection of eye disease – macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, etc. – is crucial for proper treatment. Digital retinal imaging helps us to do just that. Elite Eye Care is proud to offer the latest technology in retinal imaging, the Optomap Retinal Exam.
Children's Eye Exams
Nearly 80% of what we learn in life is through our visual system, so children’s eye exams are critical. Many times, children have a vision problem without being aware of it. To them, how they see is “normal”, because they are not aware that is should be any different. They just think that how they see is how everyone sees. Worse yet, many of these vision disorders can lead to serious learning problems and, at times, even behavioral issues.
The American Optometric Association recommends an eye exam for all infants, then again at age 2-3, and at age 4-5 before a child starts kindergarten. Vision screenings at the pediatrician’s office only detect the most blatant problems, and don’t test for many of the most common children’s vision problems associated with up-close vision used for reading, focusing, and tracking.
Both Dr. Huisman and Dr. Bell are InfantSEE Providers and offer comprehensive eye examinations to children, ages 6-12 months, at no cost. Learn more at www.infantSEE.org
